SYNOPSIS

Film director Hasraf Dulull approached JM Blay to design and direct some motion graphic sequences for his upcoming Sci-Fi independent film, The Beyond.
JM Blay ended up designing and directing 11 standalone motion graphics sequences, FUI-UI (User Interface) graphics, OSP (On-Screen Packaging) and HUD (Head-up Display).
Set in 2019, The Beyond chronicles the groundbreaking mission which sent astronauts - modified with advanced robotics, through a newly discovered wormhole. The sequences and graphics created by JM were essential to tell key moments in the story and visualise the science and tech.

HaZ reached out to JM to collaborate on his film when it was in the first steps of postproduction.
After a meeting where HaZ told JM about the film storyline and showed him a few filming shots, Blay went to his studio and generated a look dev at what he envisioned for the project.
After HaZ decided which sequences could have that look and fit in that way of narration, he sent the script to JM and explained each sequence so every detail was clear as these sequences were key in the film storytelling.
JM then developed an animatic for each sequence for him and director Haz to discuss and refine them until they were spot-on. After animatic sign-off, JM would go and apply the final look. Once the final look was approved by Haz, the final sequence was sent to render and into the film.
It was quite a smooth experience as JM spoke directly to the film director, HaZ. It was also very intense as JM made this project almost by himself.
